Odfjell Technology’s new MAXGrip innovation – an indispensable asset for efficient and reliable fishing operations
By Ian Low, Product Line Manager – Wellbore Cleanup
Wellbore debris is responsible for a global downhole tool failure rate of around 6.5% – a statistic that every year leads to reduced productivity, significant non-productive time and lost revenues.
Odfjell Technology’s latest innovation –the MAXGrip high strength fishing magnet – aims to reduce that figure by using a revolutionary design to deliver seamless fishing operations and achieve increased debris removal.
In real-world fishing operations, surfaces for magnet contact are often limited. This limitation, which rarely provides large, flat surface areas, can be challenging.
But that’s where MAXGrip is different.
The MAXGrip fishing magnet, with its rare earth magnetic arrangement, is a genuine flat-bottom magnet that does not require the fish to have a substantial surface area for debris retrieval.
The high-strength magnets guarantee contact with the fish, ensuring that MAXGrip functions effectively, safely and reliably, irrespective of environmental conditions or surface irregularities.
The improved chances of retrieving debris from the wellbore with a secure and powerful grip lead to cost savings by reducing rig time and enabling a return to the critical path.
Productivity is also increased as the metallic debris that can hinder completion equipment – interfering with valves, electronics and other hardware – is eliminated.
MAXGrip is available in 5.75”, 8.3” and 12.1” OD sizes and is resistant to temperatures of up to 180C within harsh downhole environments. It is equipped with large bypass ports to washdown over the fish and aid debris recovery.
Although an innovation that has involved countless design and engineering hours, MAXGrip is a simple system that can be run in hole on existing drill pipe.
The design supports complete disassembly, ensuring that all parts can be maintained, inspected and replaced for 100% compatibility with all inspection criteria.
We believe this latest addition to our wellbore clean-up portfolio exemplifies robustness and longevity – it’s a versatile solution ensuring consistent and reliable performance across multiple operations.
