Odfjell Technology executes TRS Operations in Kuwait’s First Offshore Jurassic Well

Published 20.03.2025

For the first time in Kuwait, Odfjell Technology, an integrated supplier of well services technology and engineering solutions, has successfully deployed a 36”x 38” conductor pipe in the country’s first offshore Jurassic well.

The well, operated by a global service provider, received a custom-tailored solution to support the wellbore structure and prevent formations caving. Real-time monitoring of the operation allowed for an adaptive approach, precise placement of the conductor pipe and minimized stress on the equipment, resulting in no downtime and zero incidents.

The bespoke pipe required modifications, such as the creation of a specialized 38” hinged casing spider bowl, to ensure safe installation. These adjustments were necessary due to the pipe’s significant size and weight, as well as the extreme depths of the reservoir, deviating from conventional running procedures.

Odfjell Technology’s work in Kuwait plays a key role in the country’s efforts to develop natural gas resources, particularly from Jurassic reservoirs[1]. With energy demand projected to triple by 2030[2], these fields are crucial in strengthening domestic energy production, reducing reliance on imported gas, and enhancing Kuwait’s energy security, supporting the country’s broader strategic focus on economic growth and energy diversification.

“Developing Jurassic reservoirs, specifically in Kuwait, brings significant challenges, such as high pressure, high temperature environments and the presence of toxic hydrogen sulphide gas. Achieving this milestone called for tailored engineering and rigorous safety adherence,” said Marwan Hassan, Operations Manager in Kuwait, at Odfjell Technology. “This reinforces Odfjell Technology’s capability to execute complex offshore projects and sets a precedent for future high-specification casing operations globally.”
